If you enjoy analyzing data to see the bigger picture and are comfortable with taking and assigning risk, then our Risk Management and Underwriting Leadership Development Program (RULDP) could be a perfect fit.

The RULDP, comprised of a summer internship (RULDP Explore) and a full-time rotational program (RULDP Evolve) is designed to provide you with the training and on-the-job instruction needed to become a successful underwriter within Risk Management & Underwriting.

In the RULDP Explore you will spend 10 weeks with us evaluating the risk of insuring potential customers and using that information to set premium rates for insurance coverage. During this time, you will also be able to contribute to an intern group project, participate in community service initiatives, and attend our leader speaker series.

In the RULDP Evolve you will take part in two rotations that expose you to different markets, buyer groups, or even new product lines. Most participants start in Medical Underwriting for their first rotation and will have an opportunity to take on new responsibilities and experiences with their second rotation.

Areas of exposure:

•    New Product (ex. Supplemental Health, Pharmacy, Dental, etc.)
•    New Responsibilities within the same team (ex. project work, mentor opportunities, increased exposure to brokers/clients, book of business management, etc.)

“I accepted a role within The Cigna Group underwriting department as my first job after graduating Penn State in 2017. Just one year after joining, I was accepted into the underwriting rotational program as a result of my passion to learn and grow within the organization. In a little under two years the rotational program has afforded me the opportunities to attend conferences, lead projects, network in new ways, meet matrix partners, and engage in more detailed financial conversations. Cigna Group does an excellent job of providing all of the opportunities a young professional needs to be successful, and the rotational program pushes that bar even further. I am so thankful to have found a company, and a program, right out of school that has allowed me to flourish by consistently enabling me to try new things and supporting me in both the easy and exciting opportunities as well as the harder and more challenging endeavors.”

“I have been in the Risk Management & Underwriting Development program since June of 2021. I accepted the role after interning with The Cigna Group throughout the summer of 2020. Throughout my time here, I have felt welcomed, supported, and challenged. I have been provided with the opportunities to expand my knowledge and skillsets while also being challenged to step out of my comfort zone. In just a year and a half in the program, I have been able to help organize events, serve on a committee, help with recruiting, and mentor a new hire. The Cigna Group takes developing talent seriously by effectively training new hires and providing them with an environment where they can grow and develop into effective underwriters, but beyond that, the development program is also designed to help participants meet their individual goals."
