The Pharmacy Underwriting Development Program (PUDP) is a structured, immersive experience designed to build the skills and knowledge needed for success as an underwriter. Through instruction, hands-on work, and ongoing feedback, participants develop both technical expertise and essential professional skills.

The program emphasizes accountability and growth, with performance measured through active participation and applied learning—preparing underwriters to collaborate, think critically, and make a meaningful impact from day one.

Meta

Internship:

The PUDP internship is for college students pursuing a bachelor’s degree who have completed three years in a related field (e.g., Risk Management, Economics, Statistics, Math, or Finance). It provides hands-on underwriting experience, helping students build real-world analytical and problem-solving skills.

Through mentorship, leadership exposure, and collaboration, interns gain business insight, grow their professional confidence, and strengthen their readiness for future careers.

Full-Time:

The full-time program is designed for recent graduates launching their careers at The Cigna Group. Through structured learning, case studies, and hands-on experience, associates build core underwriting knowledge and develop critical analytical and problem-solving skills.

Participants benefit from mentorship, exposure across the business, and collaborative learning opportunities—helping them gain confidence and a strong understanding of the role.

The recruitment process includes a recruiter video screen and up to three virtual interview rounds.

The Pharmacy Underwriting Development Program (PUDP) is a 4 month, full-time development program within Evernorth Health Services, a division of The Cigna Group. It combines extensive instructor-led training, self-paced study, networking opportunities as well as collaborative group projects. This allows associates to build core underwriting skills and develop a strong foundational knowledge to position them for success on the Evernorth PBM Core Underwriting Team.

The PUDP also has a 10-week summer internship program which targets rising college seniors.

This program is designed to help students transition from campus to a corporate environment, ideal for recent grads eager to apply their knowledge. For our full-time roles we are looking for graduates with a bachelor’s degree in a preferred major, including Risk Management, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or Finance.

Maggie's Career Journey

Maggie began her journey at The Cigna Group in 2022 through the Pharmacy Undergraduate Development Program, where she built foundational knowledge in pharmacy benefits and underwriting. She went on to graduate from the program, earning a permanent position within the organization.

Risk & Underwriting Lead Analyst

Job title
After completing the PUDP, Maggie transitioned into a full-time senior analyst role, where she built expertise in pharmacy benefit bidding, pricing, and contract development, while strengthening her technical foundation in underwriting.

Job title
As she progressed in her role, Maggie expanded her core responsibilities by contributing to the Atlas bid tracking tool, creating training materials for underwriting teams, and supporting new tool rollouts and adoption efforts.
