The AI Innovation Development Program (AIIDP) is a new rotational program designed to develop the next generation of AI product builders. Through three 12-month rotations within The Cigna Group's AI Innovation Office, associates gain hands-on experience building, testing, and scaling AI-powered solutions that help transform healthcare.

As a member of the program's founding cohorts, you'll have the unique opportunity to help shape a new talent community while working on meaningful business challenges alongside experienced innovators, product leaders, and technical experts. AIIDP combines real-world experience, mentorship, and continuous learning to help you build the technical, product, and leadership skills needed to create AI-powered solutions that solve meaningful problems and make a lasting impact on the future of healthcare.

Internship:

The AI Innovation Development Program (AIIDP) Internship is a 12-week summer experience designed for undergraduate students who are passionate about technology, innovation, and the potential of artificial intelligence to transform healthcare.

Interns gain hands-on exposure to AI-enabled work, partnering with experienced teams to contribute to real projects, explore emerging technologies, and learn how innovative ideas are developed into practical solutions.

Full-Time:

The AI Innovation Development Program (AIIDP) Full-Time Associate experience is designed for early-career talent ready to build a career at the intersection of artificial intelligence, technology, and business.

Over the course of three 12-month rotations, associates gain exposure to diverse teams, projects, and business challenges while developing a broad understanding of how AI-powered solutions are designed, built, and delivered.
A sense of mutual respect and mindfulness permeates our culture-in fact, it’s the key to our success.

Applications for both AIIDP internship and full‑time opportunities are typically open from September through November, aligning with the graduate academic calendar.

AIIDP internships and full‑time roles are located in Raleigh, NC.

The AIIDP internship is a 12‑week summer experience that offers hands-on exposure to AI-enabled work and innovation in healthcare. The full-time program includes three 12‑month rotations that provide broad exposure to teams, projects, and business challenges. Across both experiences, participants develop foundational skills in AI, product thinking, and problem-solving through meaningful work, mentorship, and structured development opportunities.

AIIDP is designed for undergraduate students who are excited by the possibilities of artificial intelligence and motivated to shape the future of innovation in healthcare. Ideal candidates are curious, collaborative, and driven to learn through hands-on experience. They enjoy solving problems, exploring emerging technologies, and working with others to turn ideas into impactful solutions. Through a combination of real-world experience, mentorship, and structured development, participants build the foundation needed to grow into future AI innovators and product builders.

For our summer internship program we are looking for rising seniors currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, artificial intelligence, information systems, data science, or a related technical field. Equivalent quantitative degrees with relevant software development experience will also be considered.

Maggie began her journey at The Cigna Group in 2022 through the Pharmacy Undergraduate Development Program, where she built foundational knowledge in pharmacy benefits and underwriting. She went on to graduate from the program, earning a permanent position within the organization.

Learn & Build

Apply computer science, engineering, and AI concepts to real-world healthcare challenges while learning how ideas move from problem identification to prototyping. Prototype & Deliver

Take on increasingly complex projects, partnering with business and technical stakeholders to identify opportunities, prototype solutions, gather feedback, and deliver measurable results. Along the way, you'll build both your technical and product development skills while learning how successful AI solutions are developed and adopted.
